I have been teaching for my entire professional life, after a very brief career as a touring composer/performer. I regard myself as self-taught in spite of my many years of education: I never really started learning how and what to teach until I actually was doing it! I found it a fascinating experience and I am still learning. Some of the courses I taught at the San Francisco Conservatory are Music Composition, Harmony, Counterpoint (18th C.), The Music of Stravinsky, Early Music of Alban Berg, Sonata Forms, Twentieth Century Music, German Song, 18th - 20th Centuries, "Architectonics": experiments in compositional processes from the Middle Ages to the present; and Electronic Music: history, literature, and practice; social roles of electronic music (advertising, propaganda, and music as medicine); Electronic Music: studio techniques.

I am Dr. Hong-Da Chin. Music is my passion and I enjoy helping people to learn and appreciate music. Besides music theory and music composition, I also play the Western flute as well as a variety of Chinese flutes. Please let me know how I can help you with music learning!
