Applied Lesson: Jazz Composition

In this course students will study write music influenced by the works of prolific past and present jazz composers. Students will write blues, rhythm changes, 32 bar songs, irregular song forms, modal

, free, and other inspired works. Individuals can express a desire to cover the music of a specific composer if desired. Composers to be covered include: Wynton Marsalis, Tom Harrell, Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker and more. Note: Notation software is required for this course: MuseScore, Finale, or Sibelius preferred.
