Using the In-Classroom Metronome
The metronome is a built-in classroom tool that helps you and your student stay on beat during lessons. It runs directly in the browser using high-quality audio, so there is no need for external apps or hardware.
Opening the Metronome
The metronome is available from the classroom toolbar during any active lesson.
- Look for the metronome icon in the vertical toolbar on the right side of the screen.
- Click it to open the metronome panel.
- The metronome is also available in practice mode outside of live lessons.
Setting the BPM
You can set the tempo (beats per minute) in two ways:
- Plus / minus buttons — click the + or − buttons on either side of the BPM display to adjust the tempo one beat at a time.
- Type it in — click the BPM number and type the exact tempo you want, anywhere from 40 to 300 BPM.
Choosing a Time Signature
Select the time signature that matches the piece you are working on. Available options include:
- 2/4
- 3/4
- 4/4
- 6/8
- 9/8
The downbeat is accented so you and your student can clearly hear the start of each measure.
Starting and Stopping
Press the Start button to start the click. Press it again to stop. The audio is generated client-side, so the click responds instantly with no lag. To play the click on your student's side as well, use the Play for student button, and turn on Student participation if you want your student to be able to control the metronome too.
Tips for Effective Use
- Start at a slower tempo and gradually increase as your student becomes comfortable.
- Use the volume slider to balance the click against your playing.
- Pair the metronome with the piano keyboard or guitar chord tool for a complete practice setup.
