Advanced Baroque Viola

In this course we will work on the tenets of baroque musicianship. We will begin with the 12 Fantasias for Violin by Georg Philipp Telemann, arranged for viola. We will then move on to study the Cello

Suites by J.S. Bach and consider the elements of baroque style that can be translated onto the modern viola. In this course we will also study scholarly materials on the manuscripts by Anna Magdelena Bach to make our interpretive choices. Prerequisite: one movement of the Cello Suites by J.S. Bach or one of the 12 Fantasias by G.P. Telemann.
