About me

I believe students are unique individuals, each with their own learning style and inherent potentiality. I work with ages 7-seniors. My teaching approach provides structured lessons with fun, encouraging interaction, fosters development of fundamental skills, like reading, technique, and scales, and encourages expression and meaning through interpretation, imagination, and creativity. I teach piano, composition, theory, musicianship, improvisation, and coach ensemble skills for any instrument. I began piano at six, was classically trained, played in recitals, Certificate of Merit, & won competitions through MTAC, earned District & State Membership through National Guild of Piano Auditions. I began composing when I was in college. Earned a Music B.A. at U.C. Berkeley, then went on for M.M. in Composition from the San Francisco Conservatory. Performances of my oeuvre include premieres with many ensembles and organizations in the Bay Area. www.SarahStiles.com
